Illumina is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual for this Staff Scientist position within the Sample Core Biorepository to coordinate and oversee day to day operations. Our ideal candidate will work cross functionally with the team and other groups to provide samples and services to assist Illumina project teams. Position Responsibilities: Leads core team, identifies/initiates/owns creative solutions at departmental level and represents the function in a core team or research team. Guide technical activities and make decisions involving execution, analysis and troubleshooting related to nucleic acid extraction. Ongoing development and addition of lab services offered as company and project needs evolve. Manage goals within defined target timeframes and make decisions regarding the prioritization of tasks. Be highly adaptive to changing project scopes and responsibilities. Be a strong individual contributor who is also able to mentor and coach junior staff in experimental design, execution, and interpretation. Designs and performs experiments of varying complexity and across a broad array of techniques, including but not limited to: Extraction of nucleic acids from FFPE, blood, plasma, and cell lines Quantification and qualification of nucleic acids using fluorometric, qPCR, and size selection methods. Mutation characterization using various Illumina sequencing platforms. Foresees issues and works to overcome obstacles to completing tasks or assignments. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements: Experience with manual or automated nucleic acids extraction, qualification, and quantification methods Strong ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines with team members and internal customers Communicate effectively in various environments with different stakeholders; tailoring communications and presentations as necessary Highly proficient, productive, and effective in the lab Ability to design and analyze experiments containing appropriate controls to optimize process efficiency or troubleshoot issues Mammalian cell culture experience Preferred Experience/Education/Skills: Ph. D. in the Biological Sciences (biology, biochemistry, chemistry) with 3+ years of experience in commercial product development (preferred), Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience. Strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry with a sound understanding of assay research and development. (Preferred) Experience with commercial development of products supporting FFPE tissues. Experience with library preparation technologies for RNA-Seq, multi-omics, spatial omics, and/or single-cell applications. Experience with a variety of sample types such as tissues (fresh-frozen and FFPE), blood, cell lines, etc. (Preferred) Experience with flow cytometry, cell sorting, gene editing, and fluorescence-based assays Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills. Experience with multiple software programs for reporting. (Tableau, Excel, Salesforce) Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to clearly explain complex issues, present data and findings, evaluate risks, and communicate progress reports to a variety of audiences across functions and level #LI-ONSITE The estimated base salary range for the Staff Scientist - Core Labs Sample Biorepository role based in the United States of America is: $115,800 - $173,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
