DESCRIPTION

The University of California’s only school of international affairs, the School of Global Policy & Strategy (GPS) provides a unique resource for training leaders, creating ideas, and building networks for the Pacific Century. GPS is internationally renowned for its innovative programs, superb faculty and outstanding students and now stands among the world's top graduate schools of international relations and is the established leader in its focus on Asia and the Americas. GPS instructs a diverse student body consisting of 60% domestic and 40% international students in MPP, MCEPA, MIA, BA-MIA, MAS, joint PhD with Department of Political Science and executive education programs. GPS also administers the International Studies Program, a fast-growing interdisciplinary program with over 1500 declared undergraduate majors, that offers a rigorous curriculum for undergraduate students interested in international affairs. Offering nine B.A. degree options, three combined BA/MIA program, and a minor program, the International Studies Program explores the interaction between the international and national, global and local, contemporary and historical ideas shaping globalization. Applies IT professional concepts, department / unit and campus / medical center / OP policies and procedures to resolve a variety of moderately complex issues in one or more IT areas of specialization. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Provide information systems support for a wide variety of issues to faculty, staff and students from the school. As this position is embedded in one of the departments, incumbent is the first point of contact for many issues and has considerable autonomy to make recommendations and triage decisions within the parameters defined by School's standard practices and procedures. Ongoing communication and status updates via the GPS ticketing systems, email, chat and/or phone is required so issues of moderate complexity and beyond can be escalated immediately to the GPS infrastructure personnel.

Job duties can vary from day to day but include a mixture of user and hardware technical support (e.g. S/software installation and maintenance; demonstrating correct usage of standard productivity applications; computers, mobile device and peripheral installation and troubleshooting); system administration tasks (e.g. user and computer management tasks in the campus Active Directory environment; web site administration; network connectivity monitoring and provisioning); A/V IT support (e.g. recording/projection equipment configuration/training; production and distribution of multimedia materials); and other information systems supports tasks as needed (e.g. applying standard security policies and monitoring/remediating vulnerabilities; creating database backups; creating/enhancing moderately complex scripts on Unix and Windows servers in support of administration tasks and web-based applications). Other duties include maintaining the GPS hardware and software inventories, generating reports on the basis of this data, and documenting local procedures.

  • Occasional overtime and weekend work required.

  • Hiring Range for Information Systems Analyst 1, Title Code 7307, is $25.77 - $31.20/hour
  • Hiring Range for Information Systems Analyst 2, Title Code 7308, is $33.29 - $42.05/hour

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements for level one:

  • Knowledge relating to the design and development of software.
  • Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot basic problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Basic understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to install, update and configure recent version of Microsoft Windows and MacOS, as well as common software packages that run on these operating systems.
  • knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts and using them to configure and troubleshoot computers and other networked devices.
  • Understanding of data management operations and database administration.
  • Knowledge of computer security best practices and policies. Ability to put knowledge into practice.
  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
  • knowledge of Audio/Video equipment for projecting and recording multimedia files.
  • Knowledge of codecs and container formats used to store multimedia files.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and modify basic web pages.

Requirements for level two:

  • Demonstrated experience with database administration.
  • Working knowledge of computer operating systems such as Win 10 & 7, and MacOS. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware and peripherals installation, configuration and maintenance. Working knowledge of document management systems and its processes.
  • Knowledge relating to the design and development of software. Knowledge of secure software development.
  • Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Provides internal technical support to more junior staff members and assists junior staff in resolving customer problems.
  • Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance. Knowledge of incident response procedures. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications
  • Knowledge of business processes and procedures. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
  • Knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies. Demonstrated skills applying security controls to computer software and hardware.
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.

Requirements for both levels:

  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how system management actions affect users and dependent / related functions.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Willingness to cooperate with and assist other staff with resolutions. Strongly service-oriented in attitude and actions.
  • Knowledge of several areas of IT.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
