Overview

The Child Watch Lead is responsible for overseeing Child Watch operations, and the coordination of staff and children. As a child watch lead, you oversee the two attendants who are watching the kids in the program. Communicating with parents for any incidents, sign in and out the kids, and communicate with Coordinator constantly.

Schedule

  • Monday to Thursdays 3:15 PM to 7:00 PM Saturdays 7:45 AM to 10:45 AM

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work effectively with others in alignment with the YMCA 4 Core Values
  • Models the 4 Core Values in all aspects of position responsibilities
  • Supervise operation of the Child Watch program
  • Assure that each child is signed in and out of the center
  • Communicate effectively and maintain a professional attitude with parents, staff and children at all times
  • Support philosophies, policies and procedures using positive discipline and redirection
  • Provide a safe environment for the children to operate within
  • Maintain accurate records, including but not limited to attendance, child waivers, emergency information, daily incident reports, and supervisor's log
  • Assist in evaluating effectiveness of staff
  • Participate in housekeeping responsibilities
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, parents, members and co-workers
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures. Inform appropriate staff of any policy or safety concerns
  • General housekeeping duties including cleaning bathrooms, wiping down tables, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors, taking out trash and locking all doors
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the YMCA image and mission statement are upheld
  • Assist in planning, supervision and implementation of the daily schedule and curriculum
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Provide support to other departments as needed
  • Wear YMCA staff shirt and name tag during working hours
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in active sports and games with children, monitor behavior- requiring separation and participate in curriculum activities
  • Physical ability to lift children as needed, change and clean a soiled child, interact and direct play
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 1+ year’s of experience working with infants and children, ages 2 months - 12 years of age
  • Ability to communicate and relate well with both young children and adults
  • Able to provide leadership and stability for program continuity
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $17.35 - USD $20.41 /Hr.
