Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated, self-driven and energetic individual to join our Embedded Systems team at our San Diego design facility. You will become a member of Illumina’s award-winning team doing cutting-edge development of sequencing instruments – and enjoy a fast-paced dynamic environment and a culture of open communication and mutual respect! The Embedded Systems team defines, develops, and commercializes our designs for new, industry-leading sequencing instruments for life sciences and clinical markets. Responsibilities: Contribute to the development of appropriate product design user needs, requirements, specifications, and traceability throughout the product lifecycle Execute specific deliverables associated with development of RUO and/or IVD products, including but not limited to design verification, specification management, and traceability. Work with subject matter experts to drive execution of project risk management activities in compliance with the risk management process and industry best practices (FMEAs, Hazard Analysis, etc.). Work on and contribute to Embedded Systems areas such as power systems, cabling, communication, safety, and control systems Deep dive on failure analysis at system level, and lead both short term containment and permanent solutions Lead or contribute to development of sequencing instruments with a focus on Embedded Systems Lead development of instrument-level telemetry system, working with subject matter experts, firmware, and software teams Lead or contribute to development of analysis and support tools for instrument performance data Work with cross-functional teams on optimizing performance, reliability, and cost Define and implement processes to improve project execution Requirements: 8+ years of hands-on experience in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Working knowledge of system design, simulation, and modelling Strong knowledge of data analysis Working knowledge of applicable industry standards including IEEE, ISO and NEMA Working knowledge in firmware and software Ability to guide other multi-discipline design teams to ensure successful project execution. Collaborates, builds relationships, and influences team members to work towards common goals Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills Education: Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience. Electrical Engineering degree is preferred #LI-ONSITE The estimated base salary range for the Staff Systems Engineer - Core R&D role based in the United States of America is: $115,800 - $173,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
