DESCRIPTION
The Department of Surgery is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine and is comprised of 102 full time faculty members, 220 voluntary faculty members, 20 physicians employed on MSP agreements, 25 doctors employed by the VA or other facilities, 77 accredited and 13 non-accredited trainees and 100 career staff. Activities are organized in 13 sub-specialty divisions. Annual expenditures across the Department total over $66.5M with a global research portfolio of over $19M. The missions of research, education and patient care are intertwined, and are integral to the goals of the department.

Assist in managing laboratory operations and provide technical assistance to other lab personnel and perform various in vitro and in vivo experiments. Oversee and maintain laboratory inventory; order and maintain supplies and lab equipment. Serve as laboratory safety manager, implement lab safety protocols, update safety training records, and act as liaison with safety officers from Environment Health & Safety (EH&S).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Theoretical knowledge of biology, microbiology, or related field.
- Experience with office equipment, computers and lab techniques such as mouse influenza infection and surgery, work with human blood, high performance liquid chromatography, and flow cytometry.
- Experience with software programs including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS-Windows, database and statistical software.
- Ability to interpret study protocols and coordinate all tasks necessary to assure compliance and completion.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent ability to work with a variety of individuals including faculty, clinicians, staff and students.
- Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to observe and report problems to supervisor as they arise.
- Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology and concepts, and/or of biological science, sufficient to understand the contents of medical research protocols and research processes.
- Experience developing and maintaining record management systems. Strong administrative and organization skills, experience prioritizing assignments when faced with a heavy workload and competing deadlines.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
