Position Summary: Develops new packaging or containers to meet established requirements and maintains oversight and quality of existing packages/containers for all product groups. Defines package requirements for product groups and customer requirements. Develops recommendations according to the nature of the product, cost limitations, legal requirements, and the type of protection required, taking into consideration the need for resistance to external variables. May be responsible for coordination of activities and logistics at secondary contract packaging and labeling sites. Responsibilities may include documentation management and an understanding of good manufacturing practices (GMPs). Uses appropriate tools and performs integrity analysis of packaging and improves manufacturing techniques. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs and other related duties may be assigned. Responsibilities: Work cross-functionally on mildly complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors Exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results Acquire and maintain a clear understanding of the technologies utilized in Illumina’s products, parts, and services Team member on project teams responsible for developing package systems Design and select primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components and suppliers Write specifications and technical protocols/reports for primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components and associated qualifications and/or validations Coordinate artwork/labeling development Interface with internal teams and external suppliers to conduct packaging testing (including shipping validations) of packaging materials and packaged components Develop and implement applicable procedures and work instructions for development aspects of packaging Develop cold chain management systems including qualification and specifications Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Experience/Education: Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 0-2 years of experience The estimated base salary range for the Packaging Engineer role based in the United States of America is: $61,700 - $92,500. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
